Ponte Tresa is a small village in the canton of Ticino: its approximately 800 inhabitants live in the smallest town throughout Switzerland. The village is situated on Lake Lugano and is almost on the border with Italy, the river Tresa separates it from the town of Lavena Ponte Tresa, in Italian territory.
This small village is the place where the river Tresa leaves the lake, which then flows into Lake Maggiore. The village, which is comparable to Morcote or Bissone for the beautiful lakeside town planning and training, has lost much of its original appearance due to the construction of numerous modern buildings inappropriate to the style of the village. The bridge over the river Tresa and the new cantonal road to the lake has resulted in the sacrifice of many houses in affiacciavano loggia on the shore of Lake Lugano. Among the monuments that are worth a visit to remind the church of San Bernardino of Siena, while among the palaces we can see the beautiful houses Bella and Zampini, and on the hill stands the imposing Villa Stoppani.
